04 Jul How to create the perfect business card
It’s true that good things come in small packages. However, getting your business card wrong means you could end up missing out what is a powerfully effective marketing tool.
That’s why we’ve compiled our top tips for getting it right – and making sure that success is always on the cards. After all, first impressions count.
Make it consistent with your brand
While we’re all for a business card with personality, don’t make the mistake of getting too imaginative if your industry doesn’t call for it.
By all means, if you’re a graphic designer or social media guru, even a small piece of card can give a snapshot of your brilliant creativity. It’s just not necessarily the right approach if you’re a tax adviser or funeral director.
Choose your style
Whether you want a crisp, matte finish or a bespoke die-cut card with unusual shapes, we can work with you to achieve the look you’re after.
You may even want a card that doubles up as something useful to your potential customer. Why not combine it with an appointment reminder, a product recommendation or a discount card to ensure repeat business?
Weighty matters
We measure paper in GSM, which stands for grams per square metre. So for every 1m x 1m of a single sheet of paper, the GSM will tell you how many grams it weighs.
It’s a good way of comparing different paper types. A sheet of paper used in a photocopier or desktop printer will probably start at 80gsm, while leaflets typically use 130gsm or 150gsm. Business cards, however, tend to be 350gsm or 400gsm.
Just to confuse matters further, paper weight is not the same as paper thickness. Of course, if you want a business card with punch or have any questions, we can advise you about the optimal weight and thickness to achieve the look you want – and what’s going to give the very best results within your budget.
Don’t forget the basics!
It might sound obvious but someone who has your card might just want to contact you in the future! Make sure you include your name, phone number, job title, email address, website and social media accounts if appropriate.
After all, it’s not called a business card for nothing.
Finishing touches
Always make sure you’re aware of the different finishes and pricing options available. A fully bespoke litho printed business card allows for endless possibilities including different paper types and weights.
Embossing, soft touch, gloss or foil finishes? It’s not a problem. Meanwhile, budget-friendly digital printing will allow business cards to be printed at greater quantities. The choice is yours.
